Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in people and others in animals. This novel coronavirus is newly discovered and has not been previously detected in animals or humans. The virus was named SARS-CoV-2 and the disease it causes was named COVID-19, or novel coronavirus. The source of this virus is not yet known. 

COVID-19 is a new disease, so we are still learning how it spreads, the severity of illness it causes, and to what extent it can spread. 

Del Norte County Public Health has taken measures to protect the community. Isolation, quarantine, contact tracing, and travel restrictions are all public health measures that have been taken so far to slow the spread of the virus.
