Public Health

Del Norte County Public Health is engaged in a broad range of activities designed to promote good health in individuals, families and the community. We provide clinical and preventive services, and work with local health care providers and other community partners to connect people with the resources they need. 

We educate, advise, coach, and guide people toward healthier lives for themselves and their families. We plan and prepare for emergency situations and keep vital records of changes in our population and analyze health data.

Public Health services are available to all the residents of Del Norte County. 

Committees and Coalitions
   Del Norte County Public Health coordinates several committees and               coalitions dedicated to improving the health in our community.

Public Health Programs
    Del Norte County Public Health has a variety of programs and services            focusing on the prevention of disease and the promotion of healthy                behaviors in the community. 

Communicable Diseases
   The local public health department protects the health of the community            through the prevention, early diagnosis, and appropriate management of        communicable diseases and conditions.

Public Health Clinic
   The Public Health Clinic provides TB skin testing and reading services as        well as adult immunizations. Childhood immunizations are available for            children who are uninsured or underinsured.

Nurse Family Partnership
    A free home visiting program that provides first time pregnant mothers with     a nurse to provide support as mothers prepare for the new challenges of        motherhood.

Oral Health Program
    Focusing on addressing the burden of oral disease in Del Norte County,        OHP is developing strategies to increase access to dental care and                implementing policies to increase behaviors that protect dental health.

Prevention Programs
    Prevention Programs offer a programs directed at preventing drug and            alcohol use and mental health crises in youth and teaches skills to build            protective factors. 

Nursing Programs
    Public Health Nursing programs offer a variety of services to promote            healthy behaviors in our community--maternal and family health, children in     foster care, children with special health needs, and more.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed)
    SNAP-Ed provides nutrition and obesity education with the goal of                     increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, increasing physical activity             levels, and increasing food securing and preventing diet-related chronic         diseases.

Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP)
    With an overall goal of reducing involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke     and educating the public on the dangers of tobacco use, TUPP focuses on     creating changes in the community that support tobacco-free environments.

of your expired over-the-counter medications and nutritional supplements.
