Del Norte County OHV Projects

On June 1, 2015 the California State Parks Division of Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation awarded grant funds to the County under the Grants & Cooperative Agreements Program.

The Grants & Cooperative Agreements Program (Grants Program) provides for well managed off-highway vehicle recreation in the State of California by providing financial assistance to cities, counties, districts, federal agencies, state agencies, educational institutions, federally recognized Native American Tribes, and nonprofit entities.

The Grants Program supports the planning, acquisition, development, maintenance, administration, operation, enforcement, restoration, and conservation of trails, trailheads, areas, and other facilities associated with the use of off-highway motor vehicles, and programs involving off-highway motor vehicle safety or education.

The County was awarded a Planning grant for the development of a County OHV Facilities PlanThe development of this plan will consist of site visits to the project areas, documentation of facilities, analysis of infrastructure, analysis of constraints (e.g. rural residences, campsites, environmental, etc.), solicitation of public involvement and input and will conclude with recommendations on future development of County OHV facilities as well as an outline of the goals of the County’s OHV program.

It is hoped that this plan will result in a better end product for users through the identification of potential acquisition areas (for staging and riding), incorporation of nearby Forest Service OHV facilities and camping areas, as well as for providing for ways to reduce conflicts with other system users.
