The County Administrative Office is the administrative arm of the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrative Office recommends and facilitates the implementation of policies for the Board of Supervisors, analyzes issues and makes recommendations to the Board regarding the administration and operation of County departments and monitors the use of financial and human resources.

On June 22, 2021, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Del Norte established the Advisory Redistricting Commission to conduct public meetings to receive input regarding the drawing of supervisorial district boundaries in compliance with state and federal law.

The Department of Agriculture is engaged in the enforcement of California State Laws regarding Food & Agriculture, Weights & Measures. The department performs inspections for regulatory compliance, issues permits, licenses, and certificates, and is engaged in pest management activities.

The department of the Del Norte County Assessor is responsible for valuing all real and personal property in Del Norte County. Responsible for administering the exemption programs allowed for in the California Constitution. To provide a description of individual properties within the county by the use of parcel maps.

The Auditor-Controller is the chief financial officer of the county. The Auditor-Controller performs duties under the legal authority prescribed in the California Government Code.

We provide specialty mental health services as well as substance use disorder treatment for people who live in Del Norte County, including those who are eligible for Medi-Cal.

The Board of Supervisors are the governing body for the County of Del Norte and certain special districts. The Board enacts ordinances and resolutions, adopts the annual budget, approves contracts, appropriates funds, appoints certain County officers and members of various boards and commissions.

The Building Inspection Division of the Community Development Department is responsible for the review and processing of permits for construction activities regulated by the 2019 California Building Code and Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations as adopted by the State of California and as modified by Del Norte County.

The objective of the Clerk/Recorder's office is to be protective of the fiduciary responsibility as guardian of public records, to provide the public with prompt and orderly recordation, filing or issuing of documents, and to provide quality copies of recorded documents and vital records when requested.

The Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department is responsible to perform the inspections and investigations, and to take such actions as are necessary to enforce compliance with County ordinances, resolutions, and regulations relating to zoning and land use, grading, public nuisances, including visual blight, recreational vehicles and tents, and other codes and regulations as directed by the Director of Community Development.

The Community Development Department provides coordinated services to the public through courteous, efficient, and cost-effective processing of projects that maintain and/or improve the quality of life and orderly development within the County while balancing environmental, economic, and social concerns.

The County Counsel is the chief legal advisor and representative for the County of Del Norte, including the Board of Supervisors and County agencies and departments.

The Del Norte County Elections Office is responsible for the registration of voters, maintenance of voter files, the conduct of federal, state, local and special elections and the verification of initiative, referendum and recall petitions. Currently there are approximately 12,000 registered voters, and 18 voting precincts established for countywide elections.

The mission of the Del Norte County Office of Emergency Services is to leverage community partnerships and available resources to protect and preserve life, environment, property, culture, and economy in the face of all-hazards; to prevent and alleviate human suffering and to sustain the unique character of Del Norte County for future generations.

The Engineering and Surveying Division of the Community Development Department participates in the review and compliance determinations for projects before the County.

The Environmental Health Division's mission is to protect the health, prevent disease and promote health for all persons in Del Norte County.

California law requires Superior Court Judges in each California County to impanel a civil grand jury. Civil grand juries investigate local government activities. At the end of the year, grand juries publish reports about what they have found.

The Division is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and classification of employees for Del Norte County. The Division administers the full range of benefit programs from hire through retirement for employees, their families, and retirees.

The Department of Information Technology is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of all County information systems, including the Internet and Intranet. In addition, the Department recommends and monitors adherence to all computer related information policies and procedures and provides training to County staff in a wide range of office productivity software.

The Planning Division of the Community Development Department administers and enforces zoning and subdivision regulations in accordance with the Del Norte County General Plan, Local Coastal Program and applicable state laws.

The Del Norte County Public Administrator reviews requests for decedent estate administration & determines jurisdiction of the Public Administrator to act in these cases; secures evidence of births, marriages, divorces, military service, and jobs to ascertain location and disposition of estates; works closely with private and public agencies and institutions, such as County Coroner, mortuaries, County Clerk-Recorder, banks and heir seekers to administer estate of deceased.

The Public Assistance branch of the Department of Health and Human Services consists of many programs, such as cash assistance to families with dependent children, supplemental food assistance, medical coverage, and additional programs under each of these categories.

Del Norte County Public Health is engaged in a broad range of activities designed to promote good health in individuals, families and the community. We provide clinical and preventive services, and work with local health care providers and other community partners to connect people with the resources they need.

The primary focus of the Recreation Division of the Administration Department is to enrich individuals, families and the community through the provision of services, facilities, and programs that improve the quality of life in Del Norte County.

he Del Norte County Sheriff's Office is responsible for maintaining the peace and providing a safer community for those that live and work in Del Norte County. We have a staff of dedicated deputies, correctional officers and professionals whom work daily to meet those goals.

The Social Services Branch, of the Department of Health & Human Services, exists to offer vital services to families of Del Norte County that help to enrich and improve their quality of life.

The County Tax Collector performs state-mandated functions as follows: Collection of Taxes including Secured, Unsecured, Supplemental and Transient Occupancy; mailing of statements, maintenance of records and tax charges; preparation of publications and reports; redemption of delinquent tax and maintenance of delinquent abstracts; preparation for and conducting sales of tax-defaulted properties; collection of mobile home, parcel maps, boundary adjustments and new subdivision security deposits; bulk transfers and bankruptcy claims; preparation and recording of judgments and liens; enhanced collection efforts through tax-intercept and seizure actions.

The County Treasurer is charged with the responsibility for the prudent care and management of county, school district, and special district funds.

The promotion of the general welfare of Del Norte County veterans and their families by means of: Establishing a county wide network of service for discharged veterans and their families. Providing services and assistance for all Del Norte County veterans, and surviving spouses and dependents in coordination with associated federal and state agencies, veterans' services organizations, private organizations and individuals. Continuing education and assistance for the general public, governmental agencies and elected officials regarding veterans' services, programs, initiatives and policy.
