Certified Farmers' Markets

Certified Farmers’ Markets

The County of Del Norte is committed to supporting and promoting the sustainability of local agriculture. As part of this mission, the County encourages the direct marketing of locally grown produce and other agricultural products at certified farmers’ markets (CFMs).

CalFresh EBT is now accepted at the Crescent City Farmers’ Market and the Downtown Crescent City Farmers & Artisans Market

What is a Certified Farmers’ Market?

A CFM is a location approved by the County Department of Agriculture and other local agencies where certified farmers sell their produce directly to the public. CFMs promote local agriculture and support farmers by providing them a personable, low cost way to market and sell their agricultural products, bringing them face-to-face with their customers. CFMs enrich the communities in which they operate by increasing residents’ access to quality fresh produce and creating an enjoyable community gathering place.

What is a Certified Producer (Farmer)?

A Certified Producer is a farmer who has been certified by the county Ag Department to sell in CFMs. This means that inspectors have visited their farm to verify their agricultural production. The Department issues a Certified Producer’s Certificate (CPC) to the farmer, which lists the products they grow and may sell in a CFM.

If you are interested in obtaining a CFM cert or a CPC, please fill out and submit to our office an application. See the Resources section below to fill out the application online or to download a PDF version. You may also request paper copies from our office. When using the online system, make sure you fill out the form for a Producers Certificate rather than a Farmers Market Certificate; the latter is for market managers only. Once we’ve received your application, we will call to arrange a time for an inspection of your growing grounds. The cost of the certificate is $5.00 and can be paid at the time of inspection.

Contact market managers for further information on how to become a vendor at the markets.
