Measure R

WHAT IS MEASURE R?
Measure R is a one percent (1%) local sales tax approved by voters of the unincorporated area of Del Norte County on November 3, 2020. This 1 percent sales tax took effect on April 1, 2021, increasing Del Norte County's sales tax rate from 7.25 percent to 8.25 percent. 100% of the revenue generated by this measure goes to the County of Del Norte. Measure R funds support and maintain essential services and infrastructure, such as law enforcement, emergency dispatch, disaster response services, code enforcement, animal services, veteran services, planning and capital improvements vital to a thriving community. 
FISCAL TRANSPARENCY
Measure R revenue and expenditures are accounted for in a separate budget unit.  The Measure R budget as well as up-to-date revenue and expenditure information are clear and easily accessible to the public through the County's Budget Inquiry website 24-hours a day, 7-days a week via the links below.

CITIZENS' OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The Board of Supervisors established by Resolution (2021-015) a committee of seven total members, five voting members appointed by the Board of Supervisors who shall be members of the public residing within the unincorporated area of the County, and two non-voting members. The County Administrative Officer and the Auditor-Controller, or their designees. The spending priorities set forth by the Board of Supervisors help guide the Citizens' Oversight Committee when reporting to the Board of Supervisors about revenues generated by Measure R and to ensure the uses of Measure R revenues were for vital services.

The Citizens' Oversight Committee will continue its oversight role on the use of the Measure R revenue to support accountability, transparency, and public engagement efforts. The Measure R revenue continues to be a vital resource to deliver the County's highest priorities to the community that it serves and to support economic stability, recovery and resiliency.  
 
On July 25, 2023, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 2023-036 amending Resolution 2021-015 changing it to an Advisory Committee.
